Insulated Steel Barndominium in Dolores, Colorado

Metal Building Outlet supplied this pre-engineered steel barndominium for a multimedia artist in Dolores, Colorado, in April 2024, with the building serving double-duty as both a residence and a studio space.

Designed to maximize style, durability and comfort, the metal barn-style home has aesthetic inclusions and smart design elements throughout. The client opted for spandrel beams instead of traditional girts on all four walls, with the load-bearing beams lending structural support to the building. The steel home and studio also has 2’ overhangs on all sides, created covered outdoor space while protecting the outside walls from the Colorado elements.

A double-layer insulation system boosts the metal building’s thermal efficiency, keeping heating and cooling bills low while maintaining a comfortable environment for living, working or enjoying leisure time. The steel barndominium also has an approximately 1,500 square-foot colored roof liner, which acts as a protective barrier for the roof insulation while giving the inside of the barn home a sleek and polished look and feel.

Durable, stylish and easy to adapt, steel barndominiums combine designated living areas with other types of usable space, making them popular among artists, hobbyists, auto enthusiasts and anyone else seeking a flexible space they can modify to meet their needs.
