Custom Cold-Formed Steel Shop in Newport, Washington
Metal Building Outlet supplied this pre-engineered cold-formed steel shop building for a client in Newport, Washington, in August 2024, and it now functions as a shop.
Comprised of one main shop building and two attached lean-tos flanking either side, the Mocha Brown structure with a Charcoal-colored roof provides a safe, secure all-season space for the owner to store equipment, work on projects or hobbies, or otherwise use as desired. The shop building has thoughtful customizations and design features throughout, including a 24” extended roof that creates covered outdoor storage space for tools and equipment and a roof and wall insulation system that keeps the interior comfortable for use during all four seasons.
In the roof, the cold-formed steel building contains 6” of R-19 insulation, while the walls hold 4” of R-13 insulation. In addition to creating a more comfortable work or storage environment, the insulation package helps muffle outside noise. It also helps prevent condensation from forming and compromising the building’s structural integrity.
The steel shop also has six large windows that allow natural sunlight inside and high wind and snow loads in line with local building codes. The client opted for lightweight, cold-formed steel construction for this steel shop for several reasons, including its exceptional durability and resilience against harsh weather conditions.
