Steel Barndominium Building in Fort Morgan, Colorado
Metal Building Outlet was the proud provider of this pre-engineered steel barndominium building in Fort Morgan, Colorado, in mid-November of 2020.
We worked closely with the client to customize this “barndominium,” or steel building that combines living space with an area used for work, storage, hobbies or something similar. Versatile and low-maintenance, the metal home and shop has an eye-catching exterior thanks to Saddle Tan Paint, Light Stone trim and a Fern Green roof and wainscoting.
Well-suited for life in Colorado’s high-elevation climate, the metal building has an insulation package that keeps it warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It also has gutters and downspouts that help it stay watertight and windows throughout, which keep the interior bright by allowing plenty of natural light inside.
Steel Shop Details & Features
Spacious and easy to erect, the metal home and shop arrived at the build site in partially assembled packages, shortening construction time. It stands 50’x100’x20’ and has high ceilings and a broad clear span that creates an open, column-free interior.
The metal home’s exterior includes 4’ of painted wainscoting with transition trim, boosting its curb appeal, and a matching gable roof with a 3:12 pitch sits overhead. There are also (4) doors allowing access inside the steel barndominium. The building has (2) 3070 commercial insulated walk doors with lever locks, (1) 16’x16’ insulated overhead sectional door with an electric opener and (1) 18’x9’ insulated overhead sectional door, also equipped with an electric opener.
A High-Performance Insulation System
The shop and residential areas of this metal building have different insulation needs, and thus, different insulation packages. The home area has R-35 insulation in its roof and R-30 insulation in its walls, while the shop area has 6” of R-19 insulation in its roof and 4” of R-13 insulation in its walls. The shop insulation has heavy-duty WMP-VRR facing, which improves the look of the inside of the building while protecting the insulation from damage and condensation.
Engineered in line with the region’s building codes, a 90-mph wind rating and a 30-psf roof snow load are additional barndominium customizations.
Metal barndominiums are well-suited for those looking to live and work, or live and play, on the same property.
