Metal Sports Arena in Kotzebue, Alaska
Metal Building Outlet supplied this pre-engineered steel recreational building for a customer in Kotzebue, Alaska, in March of 2019.
Offering unrivaled strength and structural integrity, the building is comprised of premium-quality steel components, and it now functions as an indoor athletic arena. It stands 30’x40’x16’ in size once erect and features an open, clear-span design that eliminates interior obstructions and maximizes room for recreation.
Equal parts attractive and accommodating, the prefabricated metal arena boasts a striking, Polar White exterior, while a robust, structurally sound Galvalume roof with a 1:12 pitch protects the interior of the building from the Alaskan elements. It also features (7) framed openings that range in terms of size and function, among them (1) 14’x14’ opening, (1) 8’x8’ opening, (1) 3’x7’ opening, (1) 3070 walk door opening and (3) 16’x14’ framed openings.
In consideration of Alaska’s stringent building code requirements and the considerable wintertime snowfall that falls in the Kotzebue area, a 115-mph wind speed rating and a high, 90-pound snow load serve as supplemental arena features. The largest community within Alaska’s Northwest Arctic Borough, the city of Kotzebue sits along a gravel spit at the end of the Baldwin Peninsula. The community lies about 75 miles outside Buckland and about 56 miles northwest of Elephant Point.
