Steel Barndominium & Lean-To in Sonoma, California
Metal Building Outlet supplied two pre-engineered metal buildings for a resident of Sonoma, California, in July of 2022.
The larger of the two custom prefabricated steel buildings is a “barndominium,” or a building that merges living quarters with a shop, a garage, or another type of functional space. The smaller building is a metal lean-to that attaches to the main building. The metal home has two floors thanks to the addition of a 20’x58’ mezzanine, and (21) windows in a variety of sizes lighten and brighten up the space inside.
Both metal buildings feature upgraded standing-seam roofs with gutters and downspouts to help with drainage, and both have R-30 banded insulation systems in their roofs, helping guard against condensation while keeping energy expenses low. The walls of the metal buildings also feature R-19 fiberglass insulation with VRR+ vinyl facing, which helps protect the insulation blankets from moisture and damage.
The metal residential building also has a combination of 18” and 12” overhangs along its exterior, helping protect the buildings’ walls while creating covered outdoor space. Durable, low-maintenance, and easy to design and customize, steel barndominiums have become increasingly popular in recent years as more and more people began working from home.
