Prefabricated Steel Commercial Shop in New Salem, North Dakota

Metal Building Outlet sent the building kit for this large, versatile prefabricated steel shop building to New Salem, North Dakota, in September 2024.

Designed for heavy traffic and supplied for use by a commercial and residential contracting company, the custom metal shop building has 20,000 square feet of unobstructed floorspace inside ideal for storing construction materials and housing tools, equipment and other supplies used for building. Engineered for North Dakota’s extreme temperatures and harsh seasonal weather, the shop has heavy wind and snow loads and high R-value insulation systems in the roof and walls that keep inside temperatures comfortable while muffling noise and lowering energy bills.

The roof has an R-38 multi-layer Energy Saver insulation system with a White liner panel adhered to it, protecting the fiberglass blankets from moisture and damage. The walls hold an R-30 single-layer insulation system, with both insulation systems held in place by InsulHold coils, thermal tape, steel banding and screws.

The metal shop has 16 door openings making it easy to access, including a mix of large overhead garage doors and traditional personnel doors. It also has a 3-pound collateral load in the roof, which allows for light fixtures, HVAC or sprinkler systems of similar infrastructure to hang down from the ceiling.
